Our Story

Hadish Meseret was founded by Eritrean Winnipeggers with refugee experience who came to Canada seeking safety and opportunity and who have, in turn, contributed to and strengthened the communities that welcomed them. Our approach is grounded in mutual aid: the belief that communities thrive when we share what we have, care for one another, and build solutions together. 

As a new nonprofit, Hadish Meseret was created to turn lived experience into leadership. Our work focuses on building pathways to housing, healing, and opportunity for Eritrean and other displaced communities in Winnipeg.

Our first major initiative, a community-led housing project, will provide affordable housing, wellness supports, and employment opportunities for newcomers. It’s more than housing; it’s a step toward stability, belonging, and building new foundations for future generations.
